The Administration Department oversees day-to-day city operations for Ballwin's 31,000+ residents. Under City Administrator Eric Sterman, the department coordinates code enforcement, building permits, economic development, finance and budgeting, business licensing, marketing and communications, human resources, and information technology.

About and staff
Eric Sterman serves as City Administrator, overseeing all city departments and day-to-day operations. The City Administrator reports directly to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Mayor and Board of Aldermen
Mayor Mark R. Stallmann has served since January 2015. The Mayor presides over Board of Aldermen meetings, represents the City in official capacities, and works with the City Administrator on policy and operations.
Boards and commissions
Meets the first Monday of each month at 7 PM. Reviews zoning applications, conditional use permits, and site plans. Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Board of Aldermen.
Economic development
Ballwin is home to 480 businesses and charges zero municipal property tax. The City actively supports business growth and retention through streamlined licensing, development assistance, and the Shop Ballwin First program.

Elections and voting
Ballwin's next municipal election is Tuesday, April 7, 2026. One aldermanic seat (two-year term) is on the ballot in each of the city's four wards. An additional Ward 1 seat is on the ballot to fulfill an unexpired term ending in 2027.
